Collies In The City

Join our team for an afternoon of deep diving into the world of Collies.

This energetic and focused breed can be an absolute joy, unless they are using all of that energy to focus on everything you’d rather they didn’t!

This workshop is for you if you have a Collie and have any of the following struggles:

  • Lunging and Barking at cars on the lead.
  • Chasing joggers, bikes or small furry critters.
  • Fixating on everything but you.
  • Nervous or Anxious, especially around loud noises.
  • Never-ending energy and no ‘off switch’.

Collies are hardwired to be sensitive to movement and highly aware of changes in the environment, which in a field with just sheep makes the perfect working dog. But, in the city with everything constantly moving and changing, this can quickly become over stimulating and lead to meltdowns.

However, if we take these natural instincts and harness their power, we can help our City Collies learn to enjoy life with us and thrive by learning to be calm, confident and connected with us.

The best thing about Collies is that they want to work with you! They are designed to work closely with their humans and this workshop unlocks the secret of how to achieve that with your dog.

This 3-hour workshop will cover:

Focus and Engagement – Collies have this in abundance, just often on the wrong things! We will introduce exercises that help your Collie learn to focus on the right things.

Arousal – Many things in life will cause your Collie’s arousal levels to shoot up, so let’s teach them how to think and make good choices when that happens, as well as how to disengage with exciting or worrying things.

Enrichment – Collies seeking out herding opportunities to fulfil their natural desires is a given. Let’s play some games that both give them the chance to express this need that also build focus and relationship with us. Herding simulation and chasing games are top of the list for this session.

Calmness – The elusive ‘off switch’ does not come naturally to many Collies, but it can be taught, especially when these workaholics consider it employment. Snoozing is a job? Why didn’t you just say so!

Self Control – Learning the lesson of ‘not everything is your business’ and how to hold in impulses is a vital lesson for any Collie who wants to be able to exercise off-lead in any environment.

  • Suitable for all aged Collies.
  • Perfect for those who can’t attend regular training.
  • Essential knowledge for Border Collie owners.

What ticket type do I need?

Handler – This is a space for one dog and their humans.

Member – This is a space for one dog and their humans at our special member rate for members only. You must log in and book with the email associated with your membership for the discount to apply.

Is it suitable for my dog?

This workshop is suitable for people and dog-friendly dogs that can eat treats in most situations. It is not suitable for highly reactive or overly nervous dogs. If you are unsure, please give us a call on 02921 200013 or use the contact button on this page.

How will the workshop work?

The workshop will be a mixture of theory and practical learning. We will start with dogs in the car while your trainer talks through exercises, so your dogs need to be comfortable to relax in the car for short periods. There will be breaks for you and your dog and refreshments available.
